How you can Secure your Home for Extended Absences
On January 27, 2022 by adminThere are a number of different types of home break ins that you need to be aware of. You have what are colloquially referred to as the home invasion. This is where you, as the homeowner, are present in your home and people attempt a break in of your property. This will often lead to some type of confrontation, and depending on how prepared the trespasser was for the situation, you could find yourself in a world of trouble. Thankfully, the actual number of house break ins that occur while somebody is present there are very low. Typically, criminals aim to target properties where the homeowners are not present on the property, which, for them, makes a lot of tactical sense. When people are absent from their home, the actual process of theft is much more predictable. They research where the police are and what sort of response time that they can expect, and from there determine the kind of time window that they have to get in and get out. On entry, they know how much time they have, and therefore know that they can search a set number of areas for valuables, collect them and leave. In order to avoid a scenario where you lose a lot of your stuff, there are a number of steps that you can take in order to protect your stuff when you’re absent for extended periods of time.
The first thing that you need to get out of the way is an alarm system installation. There are, a number of different levels of complexity when it comes to alarm systems, but having one which can monitor entry ways is a good first step. The next thing that you can do is to install motion sensors around the property, or connect your alarm system to other security devices, such as a safe. Alarm systems, besides making noises that will often scare off would be thieves, are designed to alert the authorities and/or a security agency after a short period of time so that a quick response to the breach can be made.
The second method that you can use is to install a CCTV system for your home. These can be expensive, but their effectiveness as both a deterrent and as a means of catching the people who’ve broken into your home in order to recover stolen goods can’t be understated. Depending on how long you’re going to be gone for, paying for a security company to monitor your camera system could be something worth investing in, particularly if you have expensive items in the home. These security services will be able to use the CCTV system in real time, remotely, in order to make sure that there is a quick response to the break in in situations where the alarm system has failed. It is worth paying for a CCTV system that can operate through a battery, so that if you lose power to the property, the CCTV system will continue to operate.
The third thing that you should look at is installing retractable security grilles. These products are usually installed on the side of a window space so that they can be drawn out in order to cover the entire window cavity. They are designed in order to resist a significant amount of stress, and they require heavy machinery in order to breach in a short amount of time. They are very effective at preventing break ins, as breaking through them generates a lot of noise, alerting those surrounding the building to the attempted break in. As they are retractable, they can be deployed as and when you need them. These are great options, particularly when you’re absent from the home, as they do ruin the view a bit. When you’re not in the house, this can actually be a big plus, as those considering breaking in will typically look through windows in order to figure out the lay-out of the property before breaching, and retractable security grilles will both dissuade people through this, as well as by making breaking in much more difficult.
Another thing that you can consider using when you’re away for extended periods of time is a security service. Besides being able to hire a private security agency to install security systems, you can also use them for other stuff that you might find worthwhile. For example, you can use a security service in order to retain constant monitoring of alarm systems and CCTV networks, so that a quick response can be made. Depending on your neighbourhood, there may also be services that offer around the clock, in person support. This can mean that you will get security experts responding should any alarm system get tripped, and it can also mean regular patrols from them onto your street in order to act as a deterrent.
